Best Mountain Bike Trails
Buffalo Creek Mountain Bike trail
Description: Wow, this trail is awesome. I had high expectations after riding the Green Mountain and Morrison Creek sections off the nearby Colorado trail and Buffalo Creek didn't disappoint. The climb on Buffalo Creek road is nice and steady as it follows the stream up. Baldy trail takes you through some burned out sections of forest and over a short stretch of slickrock as you near the top of the climb (about 1000 feet by the time it's all done). The singletrack downhills on this trail are amazing, especially Charlie's Cutoff with more slickrock sections and some hairy turns through some cool rock formations. Sandy Wash has some nice banked turns and some technical sections near the top (parts of this go through some more burned out forest sections). When you're back down to the road you'll be amazed at how much downhill you got out of that easy little climb. Awesome, you got to try this trail!
Slickrock Mountain bike trail
Description: This trail is probably the most well known mountain bike trail in the country. That being said, it is not necessarily the BEST trail in the country. It is definitely unique due to the tread (rock) and the desolate landscape that surrounds the area. The trail is full of short steep climbs and descents and will really work your legs out. Plan on taking a few hours (3-4) to ride the loop all the way around. If you plan on hitting this trail in the summer (like we foolishly did), be sure to get there real early before it starts getting unbearably hot. Don't even think of trying to do this trail in the evening because it will still be just as hot (due to the enormous heat capacity of the rocks). Again, the trail is unique and is perfect for mountain bikers looking for a trail that is totally different from anywhere else they have ridden.
Porcupine rim Mountain Bike Trail
Description: To put this ride down in words would do it no justice!! You must ride Porcupine Rim and see it first hand for yourself! Great climb at the beginning, breathtaking views of Castle Valley from the rim, followed by an extremely technical downhill. And then to top off, some of the most amazing singletrack anywhere! One of the riders in our group, Steve, put it perfectly...."That was the most technical singletrack I've ever walked!!" And Steve is an excellent rider, so may that be a warning to the beginner/intermediate riders out there!!
Alafia River State Park Mountain Bike Trail
Description: The skinny: Alafia River State Park singletracks are IMBA EPIC certified. Wide range of novice to intermediate to advanced to highly advanced sections. The trailhead parking lot has bathrooms with hot water, bicycle rinsing stations, shaded pavilions, a volleyball net and a playground. Camping and equine trails are available.
